Boat Lifts - The Importance of Using Boat Lifts!

By Abhishek Agarwal

Many a time, the owners of a fishing vessel may question the necessity of buying a boat lift and this may be so in the case a boat owner does not understand the importance of this piece of equipment in relation to a boat's maintenance needs. Boat owners investing in a boat lift or considering buying one need to realize that this vital component of a boat's maintenance requirements helps keeps the external surface of a boat clean and free from damage that can occur when one has to reach the inaccessible parts of a boat.

Understanding the real function of a boat lift as a useful cleaning support device that lifts the vessel out of water and keeps it air-suspended so you can reach it to clean, wax and dry it properly besides inspecting it on occasion so the hull is dirt-free, goes a long way in ensuring the life and value of your boat.

Different categories of boat lifts

Chiefly, ,there are 3 kinds of boat lifts in the market today; depending on your need and the place of storage, buyers can invest in the following:

1. Floating boat lifts - work on the air tank principle; when this is filled with air, the tank lifts the boat and once air is released, the boat gets lowered. This kind of boat lift can be used with seawalls, standing docks as well as floating dock areas.

2. Standing boat lifts - are ideal for constant water level storage areas but should be avoided for use in ocean waters as tidal wave changes affect the water level more than a few feet, which is the criterion for using it effectively. On cranking up a big wheel attached to a lever, these can be easily operated.

3. Mounted boat lifts - raise the boat up between seawalls or pilings and are anchored to with the use of cables or slings, which are generally powered by a motor. This enables the lift to effectively lift the boat up and outside water levels.

Benefits of using a boat lift

Mainly, the benefits of using boat lifts include keeping boat clean, raising its longevity, is protecting the hull of the boat from sea-algae and water-stains, all of which can result in faster depreciation of the value of a boat and also does away with the need for a fresh paint job!

A money-saving proposition, the boat lifts are a big help for owners looking to protect their expensive vessel from storm-damage and scratches, cracks and other nature-induced ill-effects, thereby keeping it looking good for a long time. Thus, experts advise boat owners to invest a little extra in buying boat lifts that increase all these advantages of owning a vessel with a long life and lots of fun in coming years.

A jetboat is a boat propelled by a jet of water ejected from the back of the craft. Unlike a powerboat or motorboat that uses a propeller in the water below or behind the boat, a jetboat draws the water from under the boat into a pump-jet inside the boat, then expels it through a nozzle at the stern.

Although the date when the world's first sailboat was built is unclear, in 2002 British and Kuwaiti archeologists discovered what they believe to be the oldest known boat remains in As-Sabiyah, Kuwait. The remains date back to around 5400 B.C., according to a Science Magazine article by Andrew Lawler. The supposed vessel is plank-shaped and constructed from reeds and bitumen, a gummy substance similar to tar. Although the finding lacks evidence of a sail or mast, the archeologists were confident about its authenticity because of the barnacles present on one side, indicating time spent in water. While carbon dating has verified its age, some researchers remain dubious about whether the object was indeed a boat.

Choosing The Right Boat Trailer Accessories

By Charlie Johnson

There are many boat trailer accessories available. These accessories can help make it easier to transport your boat from place to place, as well as help protect your boat better during the trip. While some are optional, there are certain tools and boat trailer accessories that you'll need to accomplish your tasks.

If you want to get your boat to wherever you're going in one piece, there are several boat accessories that you should consider a mandatory part of your boating inventory. This includes such things as ti downs, such as ratcheting hook and latch tie downs.

In order to make sure you boat stays on the trailer, these tie downs are used to stretch behind and across your boat to keep it secure in case any of your other security devices for keeping your boat in place break during the trip. Consider it an essential backup for securing your boat during travel.

Of course, you'll also want a winch that is designed to hoist your boat out of the water and on to your trailer. The next trailer accessory you'll need is a hitch. The hitch secures the trailer to the towing vehicle itself. You'll want a hitch that doesn't have any parts that can easily be detached and stolen. You'll also want to make sure all the part are compatible so that it's easy to secure and unsecure the hitch from the trailer to the towing vehicle.

Don't forget to grab the proper jack in case your trailer gets a flat tire and you have to replace it. You'll also want the necessary tools to keep things in working order, such as your taillights.

Other boat trailer accessories you may want to consider are the proper chains for securing the boat, a tarp to protect the boat during transit, so that it is shielded from flying debris such as rocks kicked up by truck tires, not to mention the weather itself.

Buying Fishing Boats Tips

By Garvin Douglas

Even if you are an experienced fisherman, you may find that you need assistance figuring out important nuances on buying a fishing boat. You certainly want to purchase the right one - after all, they are not cheap!

Here are a few tips that will help you buy a boat that is best suited to your needs.

1. What are you buying the boat for?

This may seem like a silly question, but it is important to consider what type of fishing your boat will be used for. Will it be used exclusively on quiet stretches of water, or will you venture out onto the open sea in it? When will it be used? Are you only interested in daylight fishing, or will you need to stay on it overnight?

If you plan to fish on the sea or stay on it overnight, you will need a boat with a hull. Such boats are built to withstand waves and rougher waters, and they are essential if you will be out at sea. Having a hull also means that you will have somewhere to sleep at night when on overnight fishing trips.

2. Your budget.

This is self-explanatory; you need to make sure that you can afford a boat that is within your means. Boats can cost a lot of money, so it is important to determine a budget before you set out looking for one. Remember to stay within your means, even if there is a boat with a higher price tag that you like. Your fishing trips will be distracted if you are sailing in a boat you know you can't afford.

3. Warranties.

You must make sure that your fishing boat has a warranty. If you buy from a dealer, you will be able to verify that everything is in order. You will also have the added peace of mind concerning protection in the event of a significant failure on an expensive part of the boat.

4. The Certification.

All fishing boats should be certified by the NMMA (National Marine Managers Association). If your boat is certified, that proves the boat has passed the strict standards of the agency. This will afford you peace of mind that your boat is safe to journey out onto the water.

It is very important that you follow these tips when buying a fishing boat. Doing so will help to ensure you sail away in the ideal boat for your fishing enjoyment.

One can and should insure a jet ski prior to use. Insurance may include insuring the craft and insuring one against personal injury. Insuring the craft is easier than insuring for injury, as the jet ski is associated with accidents. If one cannot obtain personal injury insurance, check with ones health insurance plan to be certain that an injury via jet ski is covered by insurance. Some plans do not cover one if engaging in certain activities like bungee jumping, parachuting and the like. Check plan exclusions prior to purchase of a jet ski.

If you are planning on buying a fishing boat then there are a wide variety of choices which depend on the type of fishing you are planning to do. If you require a boat to flyfish from in a resevoir or lake then the fisher range from MCA Boats may suit your needs. For sea fishing the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 625 or the Orkney range of boats with their more traditional shape could be considered. There are also larger boats like the Scanfisher. More Info On sea ray jet boat

In a jetboat, the waterjet draws water from beneath the hull where it passes through a series of impellers and stators - known as stages - which increase the velocity of the waterflow. Most modern jets are single stage while older waterjets may have as many as three stages. The tail section of the waterjet unit extends out through the transom of the hull above the waterline. This jetstream exits the unit through a small nozzle at high velocity to push the boat forward. Steering is accomplished by moving this nozzle to either side, or less commonly, by small gates on either side that direct the jetstream. Because the jet boat relies on the flow of water through the nozzle for control, it is not possible to steer a conventional jet boat without the throttle open.

This is not "how much does it cost to cruise." This isn't "How much did you spend in Fiji?" This is, "what do you spend on a monthly or weekly basis in the various ports while cruising?" It doesn't have to be exact, and shouldn't be overblown, but this is intended to buttress the arguments of many destination-based businesses that cruising sailors are good for the local economy. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, because it isn't just Fiji who discounts the cruising sailor as a benefit to the economy, and it's the powerful resorts who get the ear of government in most economies dependent upon the tourist dollar.

Boat Covers - Could Tarps Be The Secret?

By Keith Larraby

When we think of marine boat covers I am positive that the majority of us will straight away think of something that can be real expensive. Well the answer to this is yes and no. If you decide to buy a basic boat tarp rather than a more expensive custom boat cover then the savings can be quite significant. Stock boat tarps will do exactly the same job and will wrap around your craft. A customized boat cover on the other hand will certainly be more neatly fitted to your boat but to be honest who is even going to think about the cosmetic difference in your stored boat.

Boat tarps although not tightly fitted to your boat can be purchased in a number of pre-set standardised shapes. These are usually long or rectangular with the obvious places for tying tarp clips or other tarp accessories. Once wrapped around your boat a tarp cord can be looped through the D holes and then pulled tight in order to seal the gaps that are left.

Due to the fact that some marine craft will be constructed of wood it is vital that you use a mildewproof tarps for the purpose. This will ensure that the tarp will keep your boat free from all the elements and also form any harmful 3rd party parasite.

More and more we are seeing people use boat tarps as a replacement to the more traditional boat cover. This is for reasons of both cost and the fact that boat tarps is much stronger in some cases than that of the professionally customised boat covers. For the sake of cosmetic reasons people are at last using their heads and opting for the more pocket friendly and in some cases superior boat tarps designs.

Another great reason to stick with boat tarps is that as with all objects that are open to the elements in time your tarps cover may end up with the odd tear or so. This is the case with the standard boat covers but the difference is that unlike the more pricey boat covers ready made instant repair kits are available. These kits are easy to use and cost a fraction of the price of paying to get a boat cover professionally repaired by and expert.

So they cost half the price and do the same job, If they need repairing this is easy and costs very little.

Tips About 30 foot sailboat

Most jet boats look and perform like bowriders with spacious seating in front and back and a swim platform. Builders promote a propulsion system almost completely enclosed inside the hull, reducing the risk of damage from impact with obstacles or the bottom. They are fast, maneuverable, offering an exciting ride and a fun tubing platform.

Safety considerations in buying a jet ski are of the first import. For example, most modern jet skis have a lanyard. The lanyard turns the jet ski off automatically if you fall off or overturn the jet ski. A very old jet ski may not have a lanyard, so be certain to ascertain that a used jet ski has one prior to purchasing.

If all you need is a small boat to get you from ship to shore, then a typical inflatable tender is the best answer. If you're after a medium sized boat for diving or watersports there are many choices as well. If a large rigid-hulled inflatable (Rigid Inflatable Boat or RIB) for recreation, rescue or work is what you need, there are again many exotic designs available with a wide variety of standard and optional components. The choice is quite wide through the entire spectrum, ranging from very compact models with simple slatted or inflatable floors, to larger tenders with inflatable or wooden keels and solid wooden or aluminum floors, up to the fiberglass or aluminum rigid-hulled inflatables. To avoid confusion, before buying, or even shopping for an inflatable, discuss and decide on exactly what the uses or requirements will be for your new inflatable boat. This will minimize the models to choose from, which in turn will minimize confusion.

Hurricane DEAN - warning for the Caribbean

Fri, 17 Aug 2007 15:36:18 +0200
Hurricane Dean - a warning has been issued for the Caribbean and in particular to St Lucia and Martinique. Dean had been looking a little more ragged on satellite this morning due to some dry air intrusion, and a bit of westerly shear. However recent visible and enhanced IR satellite loops indicate Hurricane Dean's structure has improved, and may be starting the forecasted steady strengthening. In fact, the 5:00 a.m. advisory reported a minimum central pressure of 976 mb or 28.82 inches. This intermediate advisory reports a central pressure of 970 mb or 28.64 inches. This is considered a rapid drop in pressure (defined as a drop of 2.0 mb per hour). Max winds are still at 100 mph, and will take probably a couple of advisories to respond to any pressure drop. Dean is forecast to become a major hurricane in 36 hours, and is forecast between 72 and 96 hours to become a CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE with winds near 145 mph.

The Bayliner Boat Company has been around since 1955 and they provides high-class boats for the every day guy in the boating industry. The company also provides the essential care items such as boat parts, boat covers and boating equipment.

The Bayliner Boat Cover

The company produces all types of different boats and yachts so getting a Bayliner boat cover maybe a bit of the challenge at times. The good news is the company manufactures its own boat covers, which does help a lot.

With regards to ordering a cover, there are two ways to go about this. The first choice would be to order a custom-made cover for your boat. This would probably be the best way to go because you know the cover will fit your boat like a glove. However, this will require you taking the right and accurate measurements of your boat. Some of these measurements you can find in your boats manual. If you're unsure, you can always call a professional to do the measurement for you. The money you spend is well worth the investment.

Your second option is to purchase a ready made Bayliner boat cover, which can very well be perfect as the company itself manufactures them with their boats in mind. All you have to do it is to provide them with a model number of your boat and they will do the rest.

Options and Decisions

When you purchase a Bayliner boat cover you have a few decisions to make:

* The type of material you need for your boat

* The design of the boat cover

* The color of the boat cover

Once your choices are laid out, the professional staff will take over and pick you the perfect boat cover, thus keeping your boat out of the bad weather and extending it's life.

The pricing of the covers will be determined by the size and material you pick. Purchasing a boat cover is a wise investment and worth every penny. Owning a boat is like having a baby, or as so many boat owners say, investing in its well-being is assuring a long and healthy life to enjoy it for many many years to come.

Sailing yachts can range in overall length (Length Over AllLOA, in yachting parlance) from about 20 feet (6 m) to well over 100 feet (30 m), where the distinction between a yacht and a ship becomes blurred. However, most privately owned yachts fall in the range of about 2545 feet (714 m); the cost of building and keeping a yacht rises quickly as length increases. In the U.S., sailors tend to refer to smaller yachts as sailboats, while referring to the general sport of sailing as yachting. Within the limited context of sailboat racing, a yacht is any sailing vessel taking part in a race, regardless of size.
