Boat Guard and Sailing

By Hilary Templeton and Karren Leblanc

Are you worried about your prized possession the boat when you leave it unattended for a week? If yes then you should think of protecting it with a boat console cover. The boat should always be protected from harmful weather conditions, animals and animals. Majority of people during such time shift the boat from the water dock to the garage with the help of a trailer. If you have such a facility then you might not need a boat console cover but if not then think about it!!

Boat is a highly sensitive to the harmful climate and it's important to protect it from damage. Majority of boats come with boat console cover. This cover protects the boat from sun and dust and preserves your boat. Boat covers are inexpensive and yet very useful for the boat owners as it protects the boat and performs numerous functions. They nowadays come in attractive colors and design. They help protect the boat from damage and harsh sun's rays. Boat enthusiast Christopher Freville advises that the harsh sun's ray's can damage boat covers; they also harden the cracks that of the surface of the boats. Boat covers protect the electronics from sun's damaging rays.

Many boat owners can differentiate between good and bad covers and they say that the right cover should meet all the protection needs of the boat. Before you buy a boat cover, you should first do a bit of research. This is absolutely essential and should always be carried out. You should take the measurement of your boat with accurate dimensions. You should determine the center line and then take the measurements so that you get the extensions right. Boat covers should be of right size as those that are longer than the boat tends to loosen very easily.

The best boat console cover is made up of versatile canvas cloth. Canvas boat cover ensures complete protection as canvas is highly water resistant and gives best results. It guarantees complete protection against humidity as it can breathe. This is very important if your boat is stranded in a humid place, otherwise you could run into problems. In such places the humidity tends to build up and if left open the boat will be surely damaged. The boat console cover protects it by circulating sufficient air inside so that the humidity evaporates thus protecting it from damage. It is vital to keep sufficient air surrounding the boat console, as many insurers will reject claims where the boat has not been properly maintained. You don't need to carry out an extensive service, but you do need to take the basic simple steps to protect your boat.

Canvas boat console cover also protects the boat from dust and debris while allowing air to pass through it. It also blocks the dust from settling into the boat. Canvas covers also protects the boat from heavy wind and rain. Therefore the best way to protect your boat is to park it in the garage or cover it with canvas console boat cover. This will increase the life span of your boat.

Traditional sailboats are monohulls, but multi-hull catamarans and trimarans are gaining popularity. Monohull boats generally rely on ballast for stability, and generally are known as displacement hulls. This stabilizing ballast can be on the order of multiple tons of lead, for a 12m (39 Ft.) boat. However, it creates two problems; one, that this gives the monohull a tremendous inertia, making it less maneuverable and reducing its acceleration. Secondly, if the boat ever fills with water, it will sink immediately, without question.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good book on solar power - drycell battery systems and energy consumption calculations (i.e. how many and what size panels are needed to power specific systems) it would be greatly appreciated.

Learn More About cal sailboat

Most modern monohull boats have fin keels, which are heavy and deep, but short in relation to the hull length. More traditional yachts carried a full keel which is generally half or more of the length of the boat. A recent feature is a winged keel, which is short and shallow, but carries a lot of weight in two "wings" which run sideways from the main part of the keel. Even more recent is the concept of canting keels, designed to move the weight at the bottom of a sailboat to the upwind side, allowing the boat to carry more sails.

A sports cruiser is generally considered to be similar to a speedboat but has the room for at least one cabin. They are motor cruisers which have been designed with the sports enthusiast in mind. The price and size of these vessels can range from about 15000 for a Jeanneau Leader 515, upwards to well over 150,000. Other competitively priced boats are the Cuddy Cabins produced by the likes of Bayliner, which are smaller in size but still offer a small underdeck cabin to relax in. Some are built by the same manufacturers as the motor cruisers to complete a full range of boats. At the luxury and performance end of the market both Fairline and Sealine amongst others have a sports series in their range.

Boat Trailer - 3 Effective Tips For Selecting The Right Accessories!

By Abhishek Agarwal

Hello and welcome to the world of boating and boat trailer accessories: it's a wide, wide world out there with many new and varied trimmings now available for boat owners looking to jazz up their beauties to make sailing adventures funky and functional at the same time. This craving for fun accessories that are transcend the boundaries of mere functionality to also provide a style quotient to the boat is the reason why are thinking beyond comfort in boat trailer accessories and going all out to buy tools they can take with them or just leave on board, in order to simplify life on the moving waters.

Among the many different kinds of boat trailer accessories one can buy is the part that ensures proper anchorage of the boat to the trailer unit; tie downs like the ratcheting hook and latch varieties are a popular trimming option often considered by boat owners looking for family or romantic fun as with more people aboard the boat trailer, accessories become more important.

1. These accessories are useful to stretch across and function as links behind your boat to ensure it stays attached to the trailer unit in case of a problem with breakage of other security device; besides this, owners can look at different kinds of pulleys that can help lift the boat up to the trailer and keep it out of the water. The advantage of such a winch is that this will lock itself in place as the first security measure for a boat that could have floated away if not supported by tie-downs.

2. Useful boat trailer accessories include those that help a boat owner to affix the vessel in case of a need to tow it ashore. The only precaution a boat owner needs to take when buying a hitch is to ensure compatibility of the parts to enable ease in hooking up to prevent anyone from stealing these. Rollers for transferring the boat (so it can slide on to a trailer bed) with minimal risk to the hull are another good idea.

3. For those boat owners looking to perform some necessary boat maintenance operations on the trailer, there are several trailer jacks that are useful for air up or replacing trailer tires and oiling of moving parts; these ensure boat trailers stay in top condition. Support devices for checking light and wiring on the trailer, storage options for seat fabric protectors, a dehumidifier to keep mildew at bay and scraps for basic fabric seat cover repairs are other accessory ideas you can consider.

Chains as good boat trailer accessories that secure the boat are a good choice as are tarpaulin covers for all weather protection for the boat, when not in use.

3 Essential Boat Dock Accessories

By Charlie Johnson

When you buy a power boat, it's possible that you'll also rent dock space at
the nearest marina. And that means boat dock accessories. This isn't
something a lot of people think of when they purchase a boat but you'd
be surprised at what's available for boat dock accessories. So how do
you choose?

One boat dock accessory that's crucial to your boat is dock bumpers.
Dock bumpers are designed to keep your boat from banding against the
sides of the dock in heavy winds and storms.

While most bumps would
only cause superficial problems like paint scratches (annoying enough
in itself) you could end up with some serious damage if the storm is
bad enough to really slam your boat into the sides of the dock.

Dock wheels could be something you might want to consider as well.
This is especially true if your dock spot is narrow and you have
trouble steering your boat all the way in. Dock wheels allow you
to navigate your boat to the beginning of your slot, and then they
catch your boat and bring it all the way in.

And lastly, you may want to consider a dock ladder. A dock ladder will
allow you to check out various exterior parts of your boat up close. It
also comes in handy if your can't reach your boat from the dock and choose
to swim to it.

Buying your boat is just the beginning. There are many other things you
need to take care of that new boat owners don't necessarily think of when
purchasing a boat.

How do I find a repair facility for my inflatable boat? Go to a Supplier's Index and search for the listing of the manufacturer of your boat. Click there to go to their website and locate the "dealer list" to search for a dealer/repair facility in your area. The common sailboat comprises eight essential parts: hull, tiller, rudder, mainsail, mast, boom, jib and keel. The hull is the shell of the boat, which contains all the internal components. Its symmetrical shape balances the sailboat and reduces drag, or the backward pull caused by friction, as it moves in the water. Inside of the hull in the stern, or back of the boat, is the tiller, which is attached to the rudder in the water. Think of the tiller as the boat's steering wheel and the rudder as the tire. To maneuver a sailboat to the right, for example, you pull the tiller to the right side of the boat, causing the rudder to alter its direction.

I'm looking for one-time, some-time or full-time crew, depending on your schedule and how much fun we have sailing together. Prefer a long-term mate, female, 30's to early 40's, slender, fit and under 5'5" (1.65m).

I bought this solid, roomy 42' ketch a year ago and brought her to a boat yard on the St. Johns River, about 30 miles west of St. Augustine, Florida. Here I've done a substantial refit, replacing/upgrading gear from rigging to thru-hulls, and installing a long list of new equipment from radar to water maker. It has been a challenging project, and fun much of the time. The result is one beautiful, eminently seaworthy cruising sailboat! I'm on the home stretch now. You're welcome to join me and help out, if you like. Guaranteed you'd learn a lot! Or you can just visit, see the boat and talk about upcoming cruises.

Cheap Boat Insurance

By Alison Cole

One of the absolute pleasures that an individual can attain is by possessing his own boat. Cheap boat insurance reflects that the cost of boat insurance is relatively low, but at the same time it grants substantial damage coverage against any mishaps which might damage the boat.

This coverage is extensive, and offers coverage for the boat, its equipment and supplementary gear, outboard motors, boat trailer and individual assets. A cheap boat insurance policy offers physical destruction coverage on an actual cash value or an agreed amount value foundation. Together, boat insurance policies tender vital coverage for the boat, but there are major disparities.

Actual cash value policies finance replacement costs, minus depreciation at the point of the loss. In the event of total damage, second-hand boat pricing directions and additional funds are used to decide the estimated market rate of the boat. Partial damage costs are calculated by getting the entire charges of the restoration, minus the deductible.

Agreed amount value policies mean that the owner of the boat and the insurance company have decided on the cost of the boat, and in the aftermath of a total loss the owner will be compensated with that amount.

Agreed amount value policies also replace old objects with new ones, exclusive of any assumption for depreciation. The majority of agreed amount value policies necessitate actual cash value on specific destroyed assets like sails, protective covers, batteries, dinghies, trailers and aged outboard motors, lower drive units or outdrives.

Cheap boat insurance is an affordable way to shield an asset that might have cost a person his lifes saving.

Marinas are the top of the range as far as moorings are concerned. Moorings in a marina tend to provide deep water throughout the day and therefore a jetty or pontoon is provided so that you can walk to your boat without getting wet. These are known as Pontoon Moorings. They will also provide most of the facilities that you require whilst using your boat. These may include showers and toilets, chandlery, parking, cafe and even a clubhouse. The security provided by a marina will be good and in many cases will include electronic access gates and CCTV camaras.

Most of day sailors (or even weekend sailors) will never really need navigational skills in order to be able to sail where they want. They will probably see the place right over the bow. People who sail further in the oceans, seas, and even on the Great Lakes of North America will - in turn - not get far without even the most elementary knowledge of how to find themselves on the charts, and where to sail next. As a matter of fact, they will sail far, very far - but from the course leading them to their port of destination.

Buying a Jet Ski - The Must Know Tips

By Al Wood

Buying a jet ski is a big investment. Far too many people go into the process of buying a jet ski without any real idea of what they are doing. This puts you at a big disadvantage as the dealer will have a huge knowledge advantage over you. Far too many people are complacent about this and believe that the dealer has your best interests at heart. This is not the case. They will not necessarily give you the best advice but that which suits them best. As a result, you may end up paying over the odds for a jet ski that doesn't fit your needs. Needless to say, this is not the outcome you want.

So how do you avoid this situation? By arming yourself with all the details necessary to make an informed decision.

Research Your Jet Ski Buying Decision

Just a few years ago, it would be very difficult for all but an expert to be able to access a huge vault of jet ski knowledge. In order to compare the specifications of various jet skis, you would have to visit many dealers and ask careful questions. Search carefully through catalogues and compare statistics.

Luckily, the job of research is much easier now a days. Today, all that is required is internet access. This makes sourcing the data on various jet skis and seeing how they compare an absolute breeze. Be sure to arm yourself with these statistics before you go out on your jet ski buying trip.

Buying Second Hand

Buying second hand is a great way to pick up a high quality personal water craft at a bargain price. It is often said that the value of a new car depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. The same thing could be said of jet skis (except, of course, you won't be driving it off the lot). New jet skis lose their value very quickly.

If you are willing to buy a used jet ski, this is a great advantage. However, there are dangers too. If at all possible, take someone with you who has experience with jet skis. Their knowledge will be invaluable when it comes to assessing whether a PWC is sea worthy. And if it isn't, how much it will cost to get it into shape.

Don't Be Afraid To Haggle

Most jet ski dealers will have some room for maneuver when it comes to the price at which they sell a particular jet ski. Don't be afraid to step up and fight for the best deal when you buy. The dealer certainly won't be shy when it comes to striking up a deal and neither should you.

To get the most out of your purchase, it is vital that you get yourself in the right frame of mind. You have to know what you want, how much you expect to pay and what you are willing to accept. For any jet ski novice, this is a very tall order. But with a little bit of research and thought, you might just walk away with the bargain jet ski of your dreams.

A yacht is a recreational boat. It designates two rather different classes of watercraft, sailing and power yachts. Yachts are differentiated from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose. It was not until the ascendancy of the steamboat and other types of powerboat that sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury items. However, since the level of luxury on larger yachts has seen an increasing trend, the use of the word yacht to mean any sailing vessel has been diminishing and is more and more limited to racing yachts or cruising yachts.
