South African crew wanted for Clipper 07-08 to defend national pride! Durban Clipper will be competing again in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race when it sets off from Liverpool, UK, on 16 September this year. This will be the second time Durban Clipper has taken part in the race – having finished on the podium in a very creditable second place in Clipper 05-06. With the exception of the skippers, none of the crews are professional sailors and many of those taking part have never sailed before beginning their comprehensive race training. It is not too late for people from South Africa to sign up to take part in this 35,000-mile ocean race. It is important to utilize a boat bill of sale form when buying or selling a used boat. A bill of sale form provides the seller with proof that the new owner is now legally responsible for the boat. For the buyer, a bill of sale form is proof of purchase that the boat is theirs.
When utilizing a boat bill of sale form, it is suggested that it contains the following;
1. the name and residential address of the purchaser.
2. the name and residential address of the seller.
3. a thorough description of the vessel, including make, model and hull identification number.
4. the sale price.
5. the time and date of sale.
6. the signatures of both the buyer and the seller.
Many states in the US will need you to provide a boat bill of sale form before you can register the boat in your name. It is probable that each state may have a slightly different process by which the registration occurs, but the basic information listed above is common to all states and required everywhere.
A boat bill of sale form when correctly filled out provides protection and security for both the buyer and the seller. The seller is protected as they now have proof as to when the boat was legally transferred. All monies owed or fines accrued on the vessel after this time are now the responsibility of the new owner. Similarly the purchaser is protected as they have a record of the date at which they bought the boat and anything that happened before that date can be shown to be the result of the previous owners actions.
All buyers and sellers of second-hand boats are advised to make use of a boat bill of sale form for their own protection and peace of mind.

Before you head out looking for a used fishing boat you need to check your budget. Don't buy a too expensive boat as it might bother you later and you might have to sell the boat to shake out some money. Is the boat clean? If the seller hasn't bothered cleaning it before selling, what are the odds that he has been treating it good the time he had it? It's more important than you think. It's much better to buy a clean fishing boat from a pedant. Then you have a lesser chance of running into 'hidden errors'.
Don't buy a boat because you feel it's a great deal. Always have a look around and compare the price on it. A boat is just like a car and loses a lot of value in the beginning. Try to find the point where the value loss is not as steep anymore.
Even if you buy a used fishing boat online, from a local dealer or newspaper class fields it can be good to contact an expert. The expert can make a thorough examination of the boat and find errors you never would have. You can find a local boat expert simply by Googling for it and they usually charge around $10 per linear foot.
If you buy a newer used boat you should check the warranty. It feels a lot safer to buy a boat that has warranty. The first test rounds are critical and if something fails then you can easily use the warranty.

Hello everyone! I am at a crossroads in my life and am excited for the next adventure. My plan is to purchase a sailboat with the proceeds from the sale of my business and live/cruise/relax/explore for 6 months of the year- every year! (if anyone has any recommendations for what I should buy - I'm all ears - I'm looking to spend around $200kusd and like the idea of a multi hull) I have limited sailing experience but am certified in advanced navigation standard and off shore cruising standard by CYA. Because of my limited on water experience I am looking for an experienced person to be the "captain" of the boat and teach me along the way! Hopefully the candidate will be easy to get a long with and will be able to stay with the boat long term. (I will need someone to sail/maintain her when I'm not there for 6 months of the year!) The crew will only be expected to contribute an equal share of the cost of food and drinks. All boat costs (fuel, fees, marinas, etc.,) will be covered by me!. Each person is to cover their own travel expenses to/from the boat and their costs of personal visas, etc.

We just got this message from a friend's wife. Her husband's EPIRB (Yacht NO KOMIS) went off and he dropped off the nets and e-mail. The local SAR does not seem to have many assets/capabilities. We don't know Indonesia very well, anyone have any suggestions as to any other actions she should take?
"Great to hear from you and get the photos. Life is stressful for me right now. Terry and his yacht "No Komis" are the subject of a search by Search & Rescue, Indonesia. The EPIRB went off last Saturday afternoon, transmitted for about 25 hours and stopped. There has been no Sailmail since Nov 28. Terry was leaving the next day for a brief overnight passage of 100nm. This could be a series of events, none serious, but then again, who knows. Any one thing is no problem, but putting them together does make you wonder what has happened. ......"

Do you want a boat, but have found out that traditional boats are amazingly expensive? A traditional boat can be quite expensive, not only in the actual cost of the boat, but then also in gas running the boat and getting the boat from here to there. Wanting a boat and actually getting a boat are two completely different things. However, there are cost effective alternatives to tradition boats that should probably be explored.
The cost effective alternative to a traditional boat is an inflatable boat. I'm not talking about inflatable boats like the ones that are used in pools either. I'm referring to quality inflatable boats that are amazingly durable. So durable in fact, that they can stand up to dogs paws and class IV rapids! And how do you like the idea of being able to store your boat in the trunk of your car or in the storage of your RV? Being able to do that is almost the definition of convenience.
Inflatable boats come in a variety of styles as well. You can get quality inflatable kayaks, canoes, pontoon boats, motor mount boats, pontoon boats, and even small inflatable sailboats! The list of the types of boats available is quite impressive, and the convenience they provide is almost unmatched. There are a lot of very unique and functional aspects to owning a quality inflatable boat.
Imaging being able to float naturally down your favorite river, fishing and just taking in the wonders of nature, all while riding your own personal pontoon boat. How relaxing and wonderful does that sound? Imagine the areas of the river that would be open to you when compared to simply walking and wading your way along the river? Yea, if you want a boat, a quality inflatable may well be the way to go. Not only that, but with the money you save from purchasing an inflatable you can buy some new fishing equipment or toys for the kids.

There is no engineering limit to the size of jet boats, though the validity of their use depends a lot on the type of application. Classic prop-drives are generally more efficient and economical at low speeds (up to about 20 knots) but as boat speed increases beyond this the extra hull resistance generated by struts, rudders, shafts etc means waterjets are more efficient in the 20-50 knot range. Also, in situations where you need very large propellers turning at slow speeds (such as tug boats) the equivalent size waterjet would be simply too big to be practical. For these reasons the vast majority of waterjet units are installed in high speed vessels and in particular situations where shallow draught, manoeuvrability and load flexibility are main concerns.

Cowrie Dancer, after its mizzen mast broke and a crew member was washed overboard in a storm with swells of between five and eight meters. A South African crew member, Carol Erasmus, 32, of Uvongo on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, was unhurt but exhausted on Tuesday after the ordeal, which took place about 700 nautical miles south of Port Elizabeth. The two other crew members, both Australian, were injured.
